Personal profile

Dr Ying Zhou (Joey) is a Lecturer in the Academic Literacy Centre (ALC) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). She joined XJTLU in 2016 and has taken on several leadership roles in curriculum development and e-learning initiatives over the past five years. Her research focuses on English-Medium Instruction (EMI), technology-enhanced education, and academic learning motivation. As first author, she has published in indexed journals including the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, Journal of China Computer-Assisted Language Learning, and Asia TEFL.

Joey earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from the University of Bath in 2023. She holds a Master’s degree with distinction in Translation and Interpretation from RMIT University in 2012. She was a certified translator in Australia and worked for the Salvation Army in 2011. Joey began her teaching career on the International Foundation Programme at Staffordshire University (2013–2016), where she also obtained her Teaching Certificate in Higher Education (2015).

Committed to professionalism, patience, and passion, Joey designs student-centred, research-led courses that integrate cutting-edge educational technologies to foster academic literacy and deeper learning.
