Personal profile

Dr. Antony Kam joined the Department of Biological Sciences, School of Science at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University as an Assistant Professor in 2023. He graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree (2010) and a Ph.D. in Pharmacy (2015) from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sydney, Australia, focusing on natural product pharmacology. After graduation, he was appointed first as a Research Fellow, and later, promoted to Senior Research Fellow, at the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, under the supervision of a world-renowned peptide chemist, Professor James P. Tam (2014-2023).

Dr. Kam's research interests center around peptide drug discovery and translational research for applications in precision medicine, cosmeceuticals, theranostic, and food science. Since 2010, Dr. Kam has published over 28 peer-reviewed articles in well-recognized journals such as Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Frontiers in Pharmacology, and Frontiers in Plant Sciences. He also holds two US and China national phase patent applications related to the discovery of hyperstable epidermal growth factor receptor agonists for wound healing, cosmetics, and cellular agriculture applications. Dr. Kam's current research goal is to create a protein-scaffold-toolbox from naturally-occurring cystine-stabilized microproteins that can be used for epitope grafting to design new drugs targeting different diseases. His laboratory is highly competent in the use of multi-disciplinary methodologies which include chemical biology, peptide/protein chemistry, high-throughput screening, peptide-based combinatorial libraries, molecular pharmacology, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, bioinformatics, and in vivo studies.

He welcomes interested academic and industrial collaborations, as well as students to join his research projects.Interest parties can contact via e-mail: Antony.kam@xjtlu.edu.cn
