Alan Meek has been an Educational Developer Teacher of Practice in the Educational Development Unit (EDU) in the Academy of Future Education (AoFE) since 2022. With his 15 years of communicative teaching experience, he is an advocate of student centered, socially constructed learning and providing students engaging environments to learn in. Alan also has broad experience in experimenting with, and creating innovative flipped and blended learning environments while also researching the factors which affect student engagement with these environments. In particular, he has researched the impact of teachers classroom practice relating to these environment and how this can enhance students autonomous engagement.While Alans Masters research was focused on motivational pedagogy, he has recently started investigating the potential impact of a new teacher development model, currently aiming to promote reflective and actionable thought amongst XJTLUs teaching faculty.Within EDU, he co-delivers the PGCert 401 module (Learning, Teaching and Assessment), is the Post Graduate Research Students Training Program co-ordinator, the Teaching Assistant Training Program leader, and works closely with the School of Science in the School Specific Support (SSS) program.In his free time, Alan teaches Thai Kickboxing to staff and students, also being the Staff Advisor to the student MMA club. Further to this, he enjoys reading science fiction, critiquing movies, and training his cats to be dogs.
