Dr. Jiawei (Steven) Hai is an Assistant Professor in Tech Innovation & Digital Entrepreneurship at Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub, Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University. 

His research sheds light on the political economy of emerging tech innovations (AI, blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, etc.), digital entrepreneurship, and inclusive & sustainable development in China and global techno-developmental states. 

Steven's work has appeared in the Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Global Policy Journal, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, The Conversation, and LSE IDEAS, among others.

He received research grants and awards from the Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) by China in Europe Research Network (CHERN) at the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), the Universities’ China Committee in London (UCCL) by the Great Britain China Centre, and teaching development grants from the University of Hong Kong.

He is an Affiliate Fellow at King's Institute for Artificial Intelligence, King's College London, and serves on the editorial advisor board for Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIIE). Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Hong Kong, and was a visiting scholar at the Slovenian Migration Institute (SMI), the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU), and the Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER), New York University Shanghai. 

Steven obtained his PhD in Political Science from King's College London, focusing on the political economy of China's local-global AI and blockchain industrial innovation. He studied at the School of Global Policy & Strategy (GPS), University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for an MA in International Political Economy. He read International Politics for his BA at the University of International Relations, Beijing (UIR). 

​He is the co-founder and policy director of Fatdoods NFT, an inclusive blockchain ecocommunity.
