Roberto Podda graduated in Architecture in 2005 from the Politecnico di Milano. In 2009 he obtained the title of PhD in Architectural and Urban Design. His thesis, entitled Implementation of the section for a multiscale design methodology, is an original way to explore the relationship between representation and architectural design. From 2010 to 2019, he taught Architecture and Urban Design at the School of Urban Architecture and Construction Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. He has published numerous essays in books and specialized magazines, organized and curated exhibitions and conferences, and participated in numerous multidisciplinary activities, research groups, and conferences.Parallel to his academic commitment, he has matured his professional career, dealing mainly with public design and international architectural design competitions. The interests and line of research can be summarized in two words: Tradition and Transgression.History is a material, memory is a fiction, time is always and only the present. Design is a process of organizing knowledge that transforms nature into culture, its scope is to harmonize reality, its goal is to ensure human well-being and happiness. Architectural and urban planning research lies between project and process, context and text, theory and practice; it observes, describes, interprets, prefigures, and finally reconfigures to start again.Since 2019 he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture and Design of XJTLU.From December 2023 it is Director Sino-Italian Urban Regeneration HUB (SIURH).The establishment of the Sino-Italian Urban Regeneration HUB stems from the recognition of a precise market need expressed by the Italian design industry and the potentiality offered by the context of the Chinese urban construction sector. The HUB offer at the DES School an opportunity to explore the topic of urban regeneration in contemporary China. After the rapid growth of the last two decades, Chinas spatial, urban, and architectural development is at a crucial stage. A renewed awareness and sensitivity to issues of sustainability and land consumption are ushering in a phase that calls for new strategies to understand the urban territory and’re-signify the physical environment.
