Dr Lei Fan is with Department of Civil Engineering, Design School, Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University. He is an IEEE Senior Member and a fellow of The Higher Education Academy.

He obtained his first degree (BEng) in Hydraulics from Sichuan University, China, and an MSc degree in Civil Engineering from University of Nottingham, UK. He received a scholarship from the UK's Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to carry out his PhD research in University of Southampton, UK. During his PhD study, he was supported financially by EPSRC to study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a visiting researcher. He also worked as a consulting engineer for Ramboll (Gifford), London and Atkins, Birmingham for approximately three years.

His main research interests include point cloud, remote sensing, machine/deep learning, semantic segmentation, computer vision, structural monitoring and geohazards.

He is accepting applications from PhD students.
