Personal profile

Jess Yu is a creative designer, architect and design tutor.

She holds an M.Arch ARB/RIBA Part II from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, with distinction, and a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Michigan, Taubman College, where she received the Wallenberg and Willeke awards.

Currently holding the position of Assistant Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in the Department of Architecture, Jess dedicates her research to the intersection of speculative narratives in architecture and the transformative power of drawing as a tool to forge innovative connections between space, form, and function.

Jess is the founder of Jess Yu Design, where she delivered a number of architectural and interior design projects, with the work being showcased in prominent platforms such as ArchDaily, Elle Deco, Vision China, and more.  In the art industry, her studio (Figment Mews Studio) was selected for “Young Artist Program” by Suzhou Museum, culminating in the creation of a 55-meter animated scroll painting titled 'A Day with Emperor Qianlong.' Her personal creative portfolio extends further, her drawings were featured in esteemed venues such as the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, Roca Gallery Beijing, CAFA, UrbanCross Gallery, ZiWu Gallery, and more.

In 2023, Jess was featured on the Forbes China's '30 Under 30' list.
