Abstract

The water-reducing performance, air entrainment, water retention, mechanical behavior of styrene-acrylate copolymer redispersible powder modified cement mortar with different polymer content were investigated. The research shows that the redispersible powder has a water-reducing role. The amount of water in the mortar decreases with increasing redispersible powder content when the flow value of fresh mortar is fixed. In the redispersible powder modified mortar, a proper quantity of air between 9.8% and 13% is entrained into cement mortar. Redispersible powder modified mortar has a markedly improved water retention over ordinary cement mortar both in fresh and hardened stage. A noticeable increase in flexural strength and adhesion but no improvement in compressive strength are shown in the redispersible powder modified mortar compared with ordinary cement mortar. Thus, the flexibility of ordinary cement mortar has been improved, meanwhile, the interface bond tensile strength of mortar-concrete and mortar-EPS board system has also been enhanced.
