Zheng Xu is Senior Associate Professor (Reader) in Linguistics at Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University (XJTLU). He has previously taught at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, National University of Singapore, Stony Brook University, Indiana University at Bloomington, and University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. His research interests include theoretical linguistics, morphology, word formation, and Chinese linguistics. He received his Ph.D. degree in linguistics from Stony Brook University in 2007, having obtained a BA in English from Fudan University, Shanghai, in 2000. He has published works in international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Linguistics, Morphology, Linguistics, Language and Linguistic Compass, Linguistic Typology, and International Journal of English Studies (a special issue on advances in Optimality Theory) as well as edited volumes such as Deponency and morphological mismatches (Oxford University Press, 2007), Morphological autonomy: Perspectives from Romance inflectional morphology (Oxford University Press, 2011), Cambridge Handbook of Morphology (Cambridge University Press, 2016), Competition in inflection and word-formation (Springer, 2019), and All things morphology: Its independence and its interfaces (John Benjamins, 2021). His works have been frequently cited by many leading international scholars and professors at world first-class institutions.
