Personal profile

Yan Deng was born in Hunan and raised in Guangdong. She holds two degrees from Chinese universities and later earned a second master’s degree from the University of Edinburgh. She also completed her CELTA training in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

 

Yan has taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at various institutions, including the Reading Academy at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, where she received Recognised Teacher Status from the University of Reading. Prior to joining Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, she served as an adjunct lecturer at Beijing Normal University.

 

Actively engaged in both language education and philosophy, Yan has presented her academic work across China, Japan, and Thailand, including at a leading philosophy conference hosted by Peking University. Her main interests lie in curriculum and assessment design in language teaching, as well as ethical philosophy.
