I am a media industries scholar with a PhD from the University of Nottingham in the UK where I researched the issues and politics of labor in the occupation of Hollywood film sound practitioners. My other research areas are on the Chinese film industry and global cinema as well as the China’s film studios in terms of both domestic and global production. In this area I have specialized in China film law and the China-Hollywood relationship. I have recently authored a chapter on the impact of George Lucas on film sound and have recently co-authored two book chapters on the use of mobile technologies in the response to COVID-19 within China. I have published journal articles in the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television and Labor Studies Journal. I frequently present reseach at conferences such as ICA and IAMCR.I have television and film production experience in both the USA and the United Kingdom and have studied film production and theory at San Francisco State University where I earned a BA degree in Cinema.I am interested in PhD supervision in the areas of media production and media industries studies, contemporary Chinese cinema, and Hollywood cinema.
My primary research interests are in the film and television industries where I focus on issues, conditions, and politics of labor through an occupational sociology perspective and on the impact of China on global cinema.
My secondary research examines the relationship between China and Hollywood as well as the China film industry.
