Though most Hollywood films do not contain depictions of China, several globally circulating Hollywood science fiction films since the 2010s include China in their narratives as the Chinese box office gained an economic importance. Through narrative and textual analysis, we have found that Hollywood films consistently presenting China as a global technology and political power that reflects China’s Made in China 2025 policy and the Chinese Dream. The national images in the Hollywood films are found to be similar to those in Chinese science fiction films, supporting our claim that 2010s Hollywood science fiction serves Chinese politics by showing the world their preferred national images.
