Dr. Maruf Hasan is an Associate Professor at the School of AI and Advanced Computing, XJTLU Entrepreneur College, China. He received his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees from Tsinghua University (China), National University of Singapore and Nara Institute of Science and Technology (Japan), respectively. Upon completion of his Doctor of Engineering in 2001, he joined the Knowledge Media Institute (KMi), Open University, UK as a Research Fellow and worked for the Advanced Knowledge Technologies (AKT) project (2001-2003) pioneering Semantic Web and Knowledge Management research. Subsequently, as a Senior Researcher, he helped the National Institute of ICT (NICT, Japan) expanding its RD networks in Thailand and neighbouring ASEAN countries through academic partnership and industrial collaboration (2003-2004). Dr. Hasan worked as an Assistant Professor, Associate Dean and Program Director at the School of IT, Shinawatra University (SIU), Thailand during 2004 -2012. Before joining Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University (XJLTU), he was an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the College of Computer Sciences and Information Technology (CCSIT), King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia (2012-2021). He also headed the curriculum development and quality assurance at the college overhauling various existing academic programs and introducing industry-recognized skill-development programs towards employability and entrepreneurship. Dr. Hasan is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He is a recognized IT Practitioner with decades of consulting experience and credentials (PRINCE2, COBIT and ITIL certified). He supervised several postgraduate theses and undergraduate projects, received numerous research grants, and published his research regularly in Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, Digital Library, E-learning, Artificial Intelligence and Semantic Web Technologies. With a first degree in Computer Engineering, decades of experiences in teaching a diverse range of computing courses, and an intensive experience in curriculum development and higher education quality assurance, Dr. Hasan made a life-long commitment to Computer Science Education. He is a member of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and International Information System Security Certification Consortium, (ISC)².
