Personal profile

Personal profile

Dr. Graham Dawson joined XJTLU in March 2013. Before taking this position he worked at the Suzhou Institute of nanotechnology and Nanobionics (SINANO) as a postdoctoral research assistant then as an associate professor. During this time, Dr. Dawson was principal investigator of several provincial and national level projects. He completed his PhD studies under Professor Wuzong Zhou at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland and has presented his research at several national and international conferences and published papers in peer reviewed international journals. All self-funded PhD applications welcome. Research interests

My recent research progress has involved the synthesis and modification of novel inorganic nanostructured materials in order to exploit their properties in visible light active photocatalytic systems

My research interests are in the area of nanomaterial synthesis towards applications in photocatalytic degradation and water splitting.

Nanomaterial photocatalyis has applications in environmental purification and water splitting towards solar fuels. More energy hits the surface of the Earth in the form of sunlight in the space of one hour than the entire human race uses in a whole year. Photocatalytic water splitting uses a powder and sunlight to produce H2 and O2 from water and can provide a clean, renewable energy source, without producing greenhouse gases or having many adverse effects on the atmosphere.
