Emer has worked in the education field for over 25 years and joined the staff at XJTLU in Feburary 2013. Before joining XJTLU, Emer spent 13 years teaching in the Middle East, initially in Oman and later in the United Arab Emirates. In Oman, Emer delivered EAP/ESP at a Teacher Training college for the Ministry of Higher Education. In the UAE she was employed in the Higher Colleges of Technology (2000-2006), Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce (2007-2008) and ADVETI (Abu Dhabi Vocational Education Training Institute), a partnership between the Abu Dhabi government and TAFE, NSW, Australia (2009-2011). While working at the Chamber of Commerce as a Business Communications Trainer she was certified to deliver University of Washington (Seattle), Business Communications (Marketing/Travel and Tourism) credit courses and additionally delivered custom in-house training for local government and the private sector. Prior to her move to the Middle East she lived in Clermont-Ferrand, France, where she gained experience teaching in several universities and delivering and developing business communications and ESP courses for private industry, such as Michelin, MSD (Merck, Sharpe and Dhome) Pharmaceuticals and, Dunlop. Emer has also lived and worked in the US and Australia, though outside the teaching profession.
