Abstract
This article describes an attempt to improve repeating EAP students' engagement in learning through the use of individualized learning plans. It describes a project in which semi-structured interviews were used to find out why students failed their Year 1 (Y1) EAP assessments and in which learning plans and bespoke workshops were designed to address the needs identified. The impact of the project is evaluated by final interviews about students' perceptions regarding the usefulness of the project, final assessment results, attendance data, and observation of students. The implications of these results are analyzed and future directions for the project are laid out.
