Can Generative AI Enhance Student Engagement in Higher Education?

Abstract

The study follows mixed methods approach by implementing a structured questionnaire and a focus group discussion. The latter, reveals important and deeper insights, which helps developing a theoretical model from the students’ perspective. By integrating theoretical frameworks and pedagogical models, this research seeks to contribute to the evolving understanding of effective teaching practices in transnational higher education settings. The findings highlight both the potential benefits and challenges associated with integrating Gen-AI in educational contexts, emphasizing the need for balanced use and thoughtful implementation strategies to avoid potential short-term and long-term negative consequences.
