Received B.S. degree at Sichuan University, China in 1989, M.S.E.E. at the National University of Defence Technology, China in 1992, and a Ph.D. at the University of Leeds, UK in 1998 fully funded by the ORS Scholarship, the Enhanced Tetley Lupton Award. Also a recipient of the IEE Hudswell Bequest Travelling Fellowship. I started my career as a lecturer in the Computer Science department at Southwest Jiaotong University, China between April 1992 and August 1995. I then worked in the UK wireless communication industry between February 1999 and April 2007 as a system specialist and a senior researcher in the areas of 3G/4G standardization, research and mobile communication system development. Experiences encompass 3G/4G radio systems, mobile terminal system architecture, digital front-end design, mobile imaging solutions, application software performance benchmarking, and green communication systems more recently. Have been a company delegate to a number of international standardization bodies and research forums including ITU (International Telecommunication Union), 3GPP (the Third Generation Partnership Project), WWRF (Wireless World Research Forum), European 6th frame programs, and Mobile VCE (a consortium of telecommunication industry and UK universities). Received awards including “Best Invention of 2003” from Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd, “Millennium Inventor” from Nokia (UK) Ltd in 2000 and Third Prize Award ( 3rd,1996) from the Science and Technology Committee of National Defence for the Progress in Science and Technologies.I joined Xi’an Jiaotong –Liverpool University as an associate professor in August 2007, and was the acting head of the EEE Department between 2007 and 2010.
