Dr. LIM Lee Wei is currently an Associate Professor at XJTLU; and an Honorary Full Professor of Neuroscience at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, and the Istanbul Atlas University, Turkey. He is also a Visiting Professor at Taihe Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine. He was previously an Assistant Professor in the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. After completing his MD, master's and PhD degrees, Dr Lim spent several years of research fellowships at Maastricht University, University of Oxford, and Nanyang Technological University. Dr. Lim is honored to have been elected as a Life Member and Academician of the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, and an UNESCO Executive Committee Member of Anti-aging and Disease Prevention, France. 

Dr Lim’s research is focused on translational neuroscience, looking at cutting-edge neuromodulation and psychopharmacological treatments for psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Dr Lim has successfully obtained 41 grants (≈RMB 27.2 mil) as principal/co-investigator from various prestigious grant agencies. As primary supervisor, he has trained numerous PhD (11), masters (25), and undergraduate thesis/final year project (41) students. Thus far, he has won 9 inter(national) invention/innovation awards (6 Gold, 1 Platinum, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze), including a Silver Award from the Geneva Invention, for treating neurological and psychiatric diseases. He has contributed extensively to the field of neuromodulation and neuropsychiatric research, with 145 published articles and one US patent, and his papers have been cited more than 5300 times with an H-index of 37 in Google Scholar.

林礼伟博士现任西交利物浦大学副教授,兼职荷兰马斯特里赫特大学和土耳其伊斯坦布尔阿特拉斯大学神经科学荣誉正教授,曾任香港大学李嘉诚医学院担任助理教授。在完成医学士、情感神经科学硕士及神经科学博士学位后,具有马斯特里赫特大学、牛津大学及南洋理工大学等顶尖机构的博士后研究经历。学术任职包括马来西亚医学专科学院终身院士、英国皇家生物学会终身院士,担任UNESCO抗衰老与疾病预防执行委员会委员,以及法国深部脑刺激学会秘书等国际学术职务。

林博士的研究聚焦神经精神疾病精准调控技术及精神药理学治疗方法,研究领域涵盖神经调控技术创新(深部脑刺激)、精神药理学(药用真菌活性成分开发)及神经环路机制解析等方向。林博士作为首席/联合负责人,已成功累计获批多家享有盛誉资助机构的41项竞争性科研项目资助(总经费约人民币2720万元)。组建跨学科研究团队,并累计培养博士生11名、硕士生25名及本科生41名。共发表论文145篇,并获美国专利1项,获国际发明奖9项(日内瓦发明展银奖等)。论文在Google Scholar上累计被引用超过5300次,H指数为37(详见 https://www.drlimlab.com/publication)。

Research interests

Neuromodulation: Deep brain stimulation, transcorneal electrical stimulation, vagus nerve/optogenetic stimulation, and tDCS.

Neuropharmacology: Hericium erinaceus, Ganoderma lucidum, melatonin, SSRIs.

Disease models: Aging, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety and depression models.

We are seeking several highly motivated undergraduate and master/PhD students who would like to work on neuromodulation and/or neuropsychopharmacology research in neurological and psychiatric diseases. For postgraduate study, my lab accepts applicants hold a degree of bachelor with First-Class/2nd Upper Class Honours and/or a master's degree with distinction and relevant background in biological or biomedical sciences or medicine.
