Implementation of construction waste reduction strategies in Shenzhen

Abstract

Rapid economic development and large scale construction in Shenzhen have produced large amount of construction wastes all around the city in the past two decades. However, the majority of the generated wastes have not been well processed, which has caused many environment problems. Therefore, implementation of construction waste management strategies in Shenzhen is in urgent need. This paper introduces the present state of construction waste in Shenzhen and investigates the effectiveness of the existing waste reduction measures. A questionnaire survey was conducted. The main focus of this paper is to describe the views of construction industry participators on the effectiveness of each existing waste reduction measure and challenges in implementing waste reduction strategies in Shenzhen.
