Dr. Sofia Quiroga Fernandez is an Architect, researcher and educator. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University. She taught previously in Madrid at CEU San Pablo University of Architecture. She has collaborated with other universities as a guest lecturer, including UAM (Madrid Autonomy University,) ETSAM (Theory and Practice of Projects, Architectural Projects Department. Madrid Polytechnic University) or UNIMAK (Makeni University, Sierra Leona, as a volunteer).She obtained her PhD with honours (Excellent Summa Cum Laude) in theory and practice of Projects at ETSAM, with her research on “Industrial Light and Technified Image. From Moholy-Nagy to C.A.V.S. (Center for Advanced Visual Studies). Her research explores the intersection of visual,l technological and cultural innovations in architectural discourses and how it affect the architectural design experience. It focuses on how immersive spaces were first tested across exhibition layouts, theatres, utopic proposals, and universal exhibition pavilion projects. She has been working as a freelance architect since 2001, developing his work in Architecture, Interior design and photography, being awarded several prizes. At the beginning of her career, she collaborated with architect Juan Navarro Baldeweg. She has participated in International Cooperation projects as well as social cooperation projects in Spain.
