Description
Picturesque Experiments on the Waterfront – Lecture by Iñaki Ábalos & Renata Sienkiewicz:The coastline, on virtually every continent, is fraught with interests and contradictions. On the one hand, it is one of the most attractive areas and where the most affluent populations tend to settle; on the other, it is a point of friction that generates multiple problems, including major environmental challenges such as typhoons and rising sea levels. Even so, the attraction of living in connection with the sea has profoundly influenced aesthetic theories about the contemporary city. The presentation will address different cases, scales, locations, and climates, as well as diverse cultural references, with the belief that this amalgamation of factors constitutes a central theme in architecture and urban planning today.
