Description

One of the most engaging components of the POLIS event series at XJTLU is the “Conversations with Students” session. This is an interactive, informal gathering designed to foster direct dialogue between the visiting experts and the university’s architecture students.Conversations with Final Year Project (FYP) Students: this activity invites a selected number of Year 4 students – who are working on their Final Year Projects – to present to the guest speakers and lecturers their projects. In a casual setting, students have the opportunity to share their design ideas, ask questions, and receive feedback from the guests in front of the entire cohort and the other faculties.Additionally, Lluis Ortega will present a couple of selected projects from the European Prize competition. These examples will serve as a bridge to launch the dialogue, offering comparative insights and stimulating a debate between students and guests creating a deep learning experience fruitful for all the participants. In an atmosphere of a two-way exchange: the students gain invaluable insights and mentorship, while the guest analyse the emerging generation’s perspectives and the local context of design education in China. This conversation session is planned in collaboration with XJTLU faculties of the ARC department and specifically by the Final Year Project Module Coordinator, Jue Qiu.The atmosphere of this event is meant to be open and encouraging – a rare chance for students to engage on a personal level with important architecture profile. The selected students will bring sketches, concepts and drawings from their projects to discuss how ideas of public space, as seen in the POLIS exhibition, could inform their own work. The session underscores the educational mission of the exhibition’s visit to XJTLU: bridging theory and practice, and inspiring young designers to think critically about the role of public space and their responsibilities and professional part of the society in their future careers. Attendees (including other students, faculties and guests) are welcome to observe and absorb the insights from these dialogues, which will surely touch on both the practical challenges of designing public spaces and the ideals and values that drive such projects.
