Abstract

As part of a program to develop natural plastic lenses, a series of lenses were designed using the Sochacki equations and simulated in commercially available software. Designs to be cut from bulk materials of ∑r 2.1, 2.3 and 2.53 were prepared, discretized into 4, 6, 8 and 10 layers and simulated as 8γ radius lenses. Directivity ripple was found across 17% bandwidth with all scalar feed positions. Despite the 0.1 to 0.5dB ripple, aperture efficiencies of 80 to 90% were achieved.
