Abstract

Under the surge of COVID 19, the dire situation goes back and forth and does not seem to cease today. Like the rest of the world, similar scenarios attack Asia and profoundly affect the progression of research, collaborations, and exchanges of heritage sites. With the restriction of onsite visits and limited access, the sustainability of tangible and intangible heritage confronts challenges from multiple aspects. The paper starts from the perspective of individual research on religious heritage sites in Asia. Through the studies and collaborations, the paper examines the pre-pandemic developments of selected sites, and how they cope with the challenges during the pandemic. Through the joint efforts of practitioners and institutions from different geolocations of Asia, the paper provides observations and reflections on how virtual platforms assist to cope with the challenges and reactivate the research, exchange, and studies of Asian heritage.
