Abstract

Performance 'Still Life' compliments Suzhou Bay Cultural Centre, designed by french architect Christian de Portzamparc. As part of 'The New World' Art Exhibition opening.

"Still Life." Combining the architectural space of the Suzhou Bay Cultural Center with the upcoming day of the Chinese Winter Solstice, The artist embodies the concept of a still-life sculpture by using a pair of silver umbrellas, an object of protection and shelter. The artist, hidden between the umbrella's vibrant yellow membrane, emerges from her metamorphosis confinement, simulating the state of a seed. The artist's poise body, and intervening gradual movements, growing and sprouting a little, show the most primitive power of life."

Thank you to curators Avy Yang & Alex Chen for their support and for organiser BFM Art Centre. The performance 'Still Life' was created especially for 'The New World' Exhibition 'Departure.'
