Abstract

Blanking nonlinearity has been commonly employed at the receiver in the OFDM-based power-line communications (PLC) to reduce the impact of the impulsive noise. However, as OFDM suffers from high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), the blanker may falsely treat the high amplitude signal as impulsive noise. Therefore, PAPR reduction methods have been employed to improve the performance of the blanker. However, most PAPR reduction methods have some disadvantages. This paper proposes to use precoding to reduce the PAPR of the OFDM system and to improve the performance of the blanker at the same time. Simulation results show that the proposed system increases the maximum output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the blanker and reduces the bit error rate (BER).
