N2 - In recent years, there have been all sorts of tunnel engineering projects in China. With the sustained, healthy and rapid development of China’s national economy and the further enhancement of its comprehensive national strength, there have been significant typical tunnel projects in the construction fields of high-speed railway, highway, urban rail transit, diversion and utility tunnels. Considerable progress has been made in tunnel construction technology as well as in operation and maintenance management. On the basis of the existing cases investigated on tunnel construction, management and operation and maintenance in China, this talk puts forward new challenges in the field of tunnel construction in China by systematically sorting out and thoroughly summarizing the open-cut method (cut and cover method), cover-excavation method, pipe jacking method, shield tunneling method, mining method and immersed pipe method, and points out the future challenges. The talk is expected to promote the new development of tunnel engineering technology.
