Abstract

This paper reports on a research study that aimed to mitigate and propose strategies to overcome barriers to patient-centered knowledge sharing (KS) in the interprofessional collaboration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine (WM) professionals, who coexist and collaborate in the same hospitals in China. This research adopted a Grounded Theory approach using a Chinese public hospital as case-study, at which 49 informants were interviewed by using semi-structured and evolving interview scripts. 11 KS barriers emerged from significant and prevalent philosophical and professional tensions between the two professional groups.
