Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This paper explores the intersection of everyday urbanism and digitalisation, summarising insights from a multidisciplinary workshop held at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou. Everyday urbanism and digitalisation is a wide-ranging research topic. At the workshop, scholars from various fields discussed the impact of digital technologies on urban life and societal transformations. Among many topics, the discussion extended the question of digitalisation from what it can be used for into the question of its impact on society, on urban life, and what it is to be human. This paper, therefore, emphasizes the integration of digital technologies into daily urban experiences, examining concepts such as platform urbanism, digital placemaking, and the digital divide. It reveals how digitalisation is reshaping urban spaces, influencing human interactions, and redefining our understanding of urban life. The paper aims to foster conversation and interdisciplinary collaboration, and further exploration of these emerging themes.
