Abstract
Climate change presents a significant and multifaceted threat to human health and well-being, manifesting through various adverse effects, such as mental health problems, heat-related and vector-borne diseases, and deteriorating air quality. Health disparities disproportionately affect vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, low-income communities, and indigenous groups. This chapter explores the difficult relationship between climate change and health, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive, integrated actions across multiple sectors. The chapter examines the various approaches required to mitigate the effects of climate change on human health, emphasizing community initiatives, legislative interventions, mitigation and adaptation activities, public health preparation, and international cooperation. The chapter is based on an extensive review of the existing literature and case studies to identify effective strategies and extract meaningful lessons. Findings emphasize the necessity for a coordinated approach that includes robust policy frameworks, effective public health preparedness, and active community engagement. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of community-based adaptation strategies, health promotion programs, and early warning systems. This chapter also emphasizes the importance of including climate change considerations into health policies and practices to promote resilience and lessen health inequities. The recommendations stress the importance of health professionals and policymakers to advocate for climate change mitigation and adaptation, engage in continuous education, and promote cross-sectoral collaboration. A unified global effort supported by comprehensive policies and international cooperation is necessary to manage emerging health risks and ensure a sustainable and healthy world.
