Abstract

This paper discusses the concerns related to the future of the graphic design profession. It analyzes the international educational context and how the programmes adapt to respond to the VUCA environment. In order to contribute to this discussion and find our way to improve the “Graphic design” educational programme, we chose “Futures Thinking” as a metacognition methodology to apply for self-reflection and adaptation to the turbulent context. Thus, this paper represents a discussion on the future of graphic design as a profession, the reflection on the design methodologies, the skills that will be needed, and how educational programmes should behave in future contexts, and eventually, the students’ aspirations regarding their future career paths.
