Abstract

A simple and low-profile energy harvester operating at 1.5 GHz and 1.8 GHz is presented. The harvester consists of a rectangular metal and a 2 × 2 artificial magnetic conductor (AMC). The rectangular metal is studied by characteristic mode analysis (CMA) and an appropriate feeding position is chosen to excite two desired modes with broadside radiation patterns. In addition, an AMC with basic square patch structure is used to improve the gain of the rectangular metal, with around 2.2-6.87 dBi gain improvement. The entire size of proposed energy harvester is small, with 0.23 λ0 × 0.19 λ0 × 0.014 λ0, which is suitable for powering small electronic devices like E-ink display.
