Abstract

The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) has revolutionized data storage and retrieval. However, its official standard and implementation do not provide supports for secure data sharing which is an essential service of remote data storage systems. Although there are some attempts to address the secure data sharing problem for IPFS, a suitable scheme for open and decentralized system is still lacking. This paper grasps three essential goals including data confidentiality, sharing flexibility and decentralization of data sharing for IPFS. It proposes a secure, flexible and decentralized data sharing scheme, involving a file storing smart contract and a re-capsule smart contract to support flexible data sharing in a purely decentralized manner. A prototype is realized and a set of experiments are done in the Polygon test network Mumbai. The results show that the proposed scheme achieves the three goals with affordable costs.
