N2 - The integration of green education within existing curricula has garnered significant attention from educators and researchers alike. This emerging trend involves the incorporation of sustainability and environmental studies to foster eco-literacy among learners. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have emerged as promising tools to engage students in these curriculums. Evidence from prior research has highlighted that these technologies could help with better visualization, engagement, usability and reliability. However, further studies and investigation are vital to explore further key areas. There are also concerns about the potential drawbacks and challenges associated with the use of these technologies such as time consumption, motion sickness and cost. This paper aims to conceptualize the current research on the effectiveness of AI, VR, and AR in promoting eco-literacy. This research in progress paper advocates for a comprehensive investigation into the effectiveness of AI, VR and AR in environmental education, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also examines how the use of these tools might contribute to engagement and boost users’ eco-literacy. The findings could enrich scholars and practitioners comprehension of the effectiveness of AI, VR and AR in green education, help develop better strategies for implementation, and further support eco-literacy initiatives.
