Johannes (Jean) M H Knops is Professor and Head of the Department of Health and Environmental Sciences at Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. He obtained his PhD from Arizona State University in the USA, was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley and at the University of Minnesota. Previously he has served on the faculty of the University of Nebraska and was director of the Cedar Point Biological Station. His teaching, research, and publications focus on the drivers that control biodiversity and the importance of biodiversity in the functioning of ecosystems. Current research emphasis is on examining plant diversity in Qinghai-Tibetan alpine meadows and developing a framework to study biodiversity in an rapidly changing urban environment in China.
