Description
The term 'global competence' has gained significant prominence in education, referring to the array of skills and knowledge that enable students to navigate the complexities of a diverse and interconnected world. Recognizing its critical importance, both educators and scholars have underscored the need to develop students' global competence as an integral part of education, rather than merely an ‘add-on’.This research aims to explore the impact of integrating the sustainable development goals (SDGs) into English language instruction, focusing on both enhancing students' language proficiency and developing their global competence. The study commences with a literature review on the concept of global competence, examining current educational frameworks and practices. It then explores the SDGs, their educational relevance, and the potential of using them as a pedagogical lens for teaching and learning. The study will demonstrate practical approaches for educators to integrate SDGs into their teaching methodologies, including collaborative activities such as brainstorming sessions, group presentations, poster creation, as well as curation and reflection. By focusing on the practical application of SDGs in language education, this case study is expected to provide educators with valuable insights on how to effectively engage learners in their language learning and develop their global competence, thereby empowering students to flourish in an ever-globalized world.
