Teaching Like a Therapist: Investigating and Enhancing Group Cohesion and Dynamics in Language Classes Through Psychotherapy Practices

Activity: Talk or presentationPresentation at conference/workshop/seminar

Description

Fostering group cohesion and dynamic interaction is crucial for effective learning. In language classrooms, group cohesion and interaction are key factors that determine students' willingness to communicate (WTC). This workshop explores the integration of psychotherapy principles into language teaching to enhance group cohesion and dynamics.
By sharing cases from the 2024 S2 pre-intermediate and Summer PSE classes, this workshop aims to examine classroom interactions through a therapeutic lens. It will identify reasons why discussions and conversations seldom happen automatically and demonstrate how to intervene using strategies adapted from psychotherapy practices.
