Description

The discourse is a step in a broad and concerted effort to reimagine design and architecture culture. It aims to bring the women’s issues of power, intersectionality and identity into the mainstream design discourse. We aim to give a platform to women to discuss their role in the design-oriented discipline and how it can centre the practice towards the marginalised and underrepresented female counterpart. Women’s stories need to be told, retold and repeated to get placement in the paradigm shifts. Reframing the idea of power and efficacy to have resources to make certain choices attainable, available and possible. Understanding the intersectionality of a being a woman and their profession as a designer to navigate a male dominated design landscape. Employing and deploying the identity of a woman, their role and how to change a stagnant narrative in the design realm. Addressing and acknowledging these discrepancies and prevalence is fundamental to the social change and transformation that is necessary. However, it cannot be the only issues to address in the design and architecture community. It is far more complex with layers of discomfort, pain and abuse. It has to come to terms and face among other things, deeply gendered values of theories and conventions of our discipline. We believe that women are contemporarily experiencing the existing power of structure, a complex intersectionality and identity where they actively work towards radicalising the paradigms.
