Activity: Research visit

Description

This research leverages a robust research framework and methodologies such as stated preference surveys and field observations, which are well-suited for examining the usability and safety perceptions of high-speed rail in an urban transit context. The collaborative nature of the project, involving institutions like Southwest Jiaotong University and Hong Kong PolyU, further ensures access to necessary resources and expertise. The project timeline is clearly divided into pre-departure preparations, on-site data collection, and post-return analysis and drafting. This phased approach ensures that each stage of the research is thoroughly executed without overextending the given timeframe.
Pre-Departure (Before July 20):
• Literature Review: Comprehensive review of existing studies on HSR usability, safety, and urban transit integration.
• Survey Design: Develop a stated preference survey to collect data on passenger perceptions and experiences with HSR and its connectivity with urban transit systems.
• Coordination with Collaborators: Regular meetings with research team members from Southwest Jiaotong University, Hong Kong PolyU, and other institutions to finalize research methodologies and survey instruments.
During Stay in Hong Kong (July 20 - August 2):
• Data Collection:
o Survey Distribution: Administer the stated preference survey to a diverse sample of HSR users in Hong Kong.
o Field Observations: Conduct site visits to major HSR stations and urban transit hubs to observe passenger flow and safety measures.
• Preliminary Data Analysis: Begin initial analysis of survey responses and observational data.
• Workshops and Meetings: Participate in workshops and collaborative meetings to discuss preliminary findings and refine research strategies.
Post-Return (After August 2):
• Data Analysis: Complete detailed analysis of collected data using quantitative methods.
• Draft Preparation: Write the first draft of the research paper, integrating data analysis and insights.
• Peer Review and Revisions: Submit the draft for peer review within the research team, incorporate feedback, and prepare the final manuscript.
• Submission: Submit the finalized research paper to the journal "Research in Transportation Business and Management (https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/research-in-transportation-business-and-management)." I have been invited to submit a paper to this journal (The invitation letter from the journal editor is attached)
