Assessing Student Engagement & the Effectiveness of H5P Interactive Materials for Flipped Learning

Activity: Talk or presentationPresentation at conference/workshop/seminar

Description

H5P software was used to create interactive video and workbook materials for Chinese undergraduate university students on a content-based EAP course. The aim was to use these materials as part of a flipped-learning approach to tackle issues of engagement and cognitive overload, and to increase the effectiveness of pre-class learning. This mixed method study used analytics data from the online learning management system (Moodle) and a student survey to gauge both the success of the intervention and student perceptions of the materials. The results were positive overall, with most students finding the materials to be more engaging than traditional out-of-class activities, effective in increasing their confidence, providing study structure, and improving memory retention. The survey also yielded a wealth of suggestions for improvements and future research.
