Study on the effect mechanism of leaders' feedback on followers' creativity based on regulatory focus theory

Abstract

This paper introduces regulatory focus theory to the research field of leader's influence on follower's creativity, and theoretically proposes and empirically verifies a conceptual framework about the effect mechanism of leaders' feedback on followers' creativity. Based on a sample of 129 students and by using an experiment method, this paper deeply analyses the influence process of leaders' feedback on followers' creativity. The research results reveal that followers' situational regulatory focus partly mediate the relationship between leaders' feedback and followers' creativity, followers' chronic regulatory focus moderate the relationship between followers' situational regulatory focus and their creativity. This paper concludes by discussing its main findings, theoretical and practical contributions and the limitations of this study.
