Abstract

Metaphor affects how human beings conceptualize knowledge of a specific field (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980). It plays a fundamental role in the creation of expressions in specialized language. The present study investigates the metaphorical terms in the Chinese Internet terminology through an analysis of a unilingual corpus, in attempt to provide a window into the modes of metaphorical conceptualization in this field of knowledge. We first describe our theoretical framework, namely socio-cognitive terminology, then formulate our research hypotheses. Our corpus-based methodology consists of three steps: compile a specialized corpus, retrieve data from the corpus, and then analyze and interpret the collected data. The results of corpus analysis open up several avenues of reflection in the didactics of specialized lexicon. We are particularly interested in describing specialized lexicon for French-speaking learners of Chinese as a foreign language (CFL).
