Abstract

Both energy absorption and modal damping have been used as cost functions to get the optimal feedback gain for velocity feedback control. However, their relationship has not been discussed. In this paper, the feedback gain for the maximal energy absorption and its corresponding modal damping are investigated theoretically based on a structure with two closely spaced natural frequencies. The physical mechanism of maximum energy absorption and its effectiveness as a cost function are analyzed.
