Abstract
Direct hydrolysis of Er(NO3)3, Nd(ClO4)3, and Gd-(ClO4)3 with aqueous NaOH afforded three hexanuclear lanthanide clusters with a common octahedral core of [Ln6(μ6-O)(μ3-OH)8]8+ whose six lanthanide ions center on a μ6-oxo ligand. Each of the triangular faces of the octahedron is capped by a μ3-OH ligand, and the coordination sphere of the metal is completed by both aqua and NO3- ligands (1), aqua ligands only (2), and both aqua and ClO4- ligands (3).
