Abstract

In this paper, the impact of artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) enabled octagonal patch antenna is presented for 5G applications. The different configurations of three AMC square cells and modified square unit cells supported octagonal patch antenna are analyzed. By using microstrip inset feed and quarter-wave transformer, it is feasible to provide better impedance matching. It is designed on Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate with εr = 2.2 and size of 10 × 10 mm2. The simulated impedance bandwidth is 17.45 GHz, which is 57% more than the basic octagonal patch antenna.
