Abstract

Virtual health care or e-Health is a powerful paradigm for creating patient-centered and technology supported service-oriented health care systems. Such systems can provide effective health care to everyone at any time and from anywhere. Health care providers, clinical technicians, domain experts, physicians, and patients may be geographically distributed, yet are connected through a reliable network for sharing their knowledge and expertise. They may use a variety of devices, such as smart medical devices, or smart phones, or laptops to automatically access, share, and synthesize health related knowledge, patient records, and clinical information. In this integrated health care environment decision making is leveraged on collective intelligence and social responsibility. Context-dependent privacy and security rules can be enforced in knowledge sharing and health service delivery. In this paper we introduce a holistic mobile health care model which is context-aware, knowledge-centric, and patient friendly. The model facilitates cooperation of several health care partners and patients so that knowledge and evidence based treatment will be available to all clients at all times in all places.
