Abstract
This chapter considers the Internet and the World Wide Web (i.e., the Web) as twoparts of a global tool for research and will discuss the advantages, disadvantages andopportunities offered therein. We will look at examples of how traditional researchmethods have evolved with the advent of the Internet and the new challenges which havearisen. We will end by taking a brief look at some current and future directions and theirassociated challenges.
