Abstract

This paper proposes a modification to the electrogeometric model. By using Eriksson equation multiplied by a proposed voltage coefficient, electrogeometric models of an unshielded horizontal conductor and a shielded conductor are constructed to study the lightning striking rates at different heights, lightning current and when it is stressed by AC and DC voltages. The shielding failure rates of 500 kV AC and DC flat transmission lines are studied and discussed for different shielding angles, voltage phase angles. The shielding failure rates of 500 kV AC and DC flat transmission lines results are compared with those neglecting transmission line voltages as studied before.
