Abstract

A matrix converter, which has many advantages over conventional AC-AC converters, is becoming more and more attractive, but it faces a great challenge that is how to achieve safe and effective phase circuit commutation. The relationship between the commutation step time and the output voltage distortion is analyzed, and based on a four-step commutation, an adaptive commutation method by using programmable logical device (PLD) is developed to improve the safety and efficiency of the power circuit commutation. In the adaptive commutation, the step time is changing according to the amplitude of the load current, so the output voltage distortion is reduced. Furthermore, the experimental results verify the method.
